Overhaul Your Career!
A Heavy Equipment Technician apprenticeship may be for you, if you are an individual who likes a technically challenging career working with large off-road machinery, trucks and buses or other heavy industrial machinery.


Program Description
First Period Training Topics Include:
Safety, tools, material and equipment, Oxy-Fuel cutting, truck and trailer suspension and steering, hydraulic and air brake systems, basic electrical, basic electronics, hydraulics, truck trailer systems and introduction to vehicle inspection.

Second Period Training Topics Include:
Engine fundamentals, service and repair, diesel fuel injection, diesel engine fuel management, and basic power trains.

Third Period Off-Road Training Topics Include:
Off-road machinery electrical systems including diagnostics, advanced hydraulics, steering and suspension specific to off-road, power trains specific to off-road, off road accessories and attachments, and an introduction to preventive maintenance.

Fourth Period Off-Road Training Topics Include:
Off-road electrical systems specific to truck and transport, spark ignition fuel system fundamentals, power steering systems, truck and transport power train, air conditioning, antilock braking systems, and an introduction to preventive maintenance

Earn While You Learn!
An Agricultural Equipment Technician apprenticeship may be for you, if you like a technically challenging career working with machinery, and/or with computers, and enjoy a rural lifestyle assisting the industry that grows our food. You will enjoy a combination of on-the-job and technical training in an earn-while-you-learn environment.

Program Description
The Agricultural Equipment Technician Apprenticeship program is a four year program consisting of eight weeks each year.

Subject areas are listed below for each in-school technical training period which consists of four eight-week training periods, coinciding with years of work related experience.

First Period Training Topics Include:
Safety, tools and skills, materials, electrical welding and oxyfuel cutting, suspension and steering, basic electrical, basic hydraulics, and agricultural equipment.

Second Period Training Topics Include:
Engine fundamentals, service and repair, engine systems, diesel fuel injection systems and tune up electronic fuel man and power trains.

Third Period Training Topics Include:
Spraying equipment, air conditioning, heating systems, agricultural equipment, advanced power trains and workplace coaching skills.

Fourth Period Training Topics Include:
Braking systems, hydraulic, power shift transmissions, advanced electrical diagnosis, off-road equipment accessories and attachments.

Career Opportunities
Agricultural Equipment Technicians may work in a dealer’s service centre or may travel to farms to work on agricultural equipment. In addition, Agricultural Equipment Technicians typically repair and overhaul engines, mechanical and power-shift transmissions, hydraulic and electrical systems on tractors, tillage machinery, and harvesting equipment. They also assemble and adjust new farm machinery and related equipment. Agricultural Equipment Technicians may specialize in specific areas including engine overhaul, hydraulics, electrical systems, power trains, fuel injection, or other related agricultural equipment.
