Hello all. I am planning to start at community college next year (NSCC) and am trying to make a choice between Heavy Equipment Repair (2 year) and Diesel Repair (Industrial & Marine, 1 year). Would anyone out there have any thoughts on which way to go here, career-wise? I’ve been looking through various job boards for the past while and see about the same number of jobs for each. Any thoughts on pros/cons on each from people working in either industry? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
The choice should what you want to work on. It sounds like you are fairly new in the field so there is nothing wrong with either areas. If you start with one, you can do the other too. A suggestion would be to do Heavy Equipment first. See where it takes you. If you want to move into engine work you can do that later once experience is gained. Many people consider engine work a very specialized area of the trade.
